OPEN VALLEY presents an expansive icy coastline where glaciers meet the sea, broken by floating icebergs, capturing the scale and isolation of Greenland’s Arctic terrain.
Thick palette knife strokes shape ice, rock, and water into a tactile surface with visible depth.
The composition emphasizes cold light, silence, and vast open space.

Cold distance governs the encounter before Open Valley opens into a world of immense stillness and uncertain passage. The dominant snow-covered peak and its receding companions seem to withdraw from human measure, while the water carries the suggestion of a route that may be impossible to follow. Brightness gathers across the ice without warming it, making the landscape feel lucid, remote, and suspended.
The scattered ice fragments interrupt the broad water with small signs of movement, yet they do not lessen the prevailing silence. Along the dark shoreline, the meeting of rock, snow, and sea gives the scene a firm edge, as though the land is holding its ground against a slow, indifferent tide. The work balances grandeur with vulnerability: nothing appears intimate, but everything feels exposed.
Streaks of cloud and pale light draw the eye outward rather than toward a destination. This distance can suggest freedom, but also the solitude that comes when familiar scale and shelter fall away. The Arctic setting remains less a story than a condition of attention - clear, severe, and spacious enough for thought to become briefly unanchored.
