Suspended between wakefulness and disappearance, Open Rest turns a small encounter above the lake into a meditation on companionship without urgency. The two pale figures hover side by side, their simple dark markings giving them an almost mischievous presence. Yet their reflections draw the scene downward, suggesting that even the lightest beings remain tethered to something deeper and less easily named.
The surrounding landscape holds this strange pause in balance. Warm ochre ground meets cooler water, while the dark band of vegetation gathers behind the figures like a distant threshold. Nothing appears to be happening, but the stillness feels inhabited - a shared interval in which playfulness and solitude briefly occupy the same space.
What makes the scene linger is the tension between the ghosts’ buoyancy and their mirrored counterparts. The reflections are not exact explanations of the figures above; they seem to offer a quieter, more uncertain version of them. In that exchange, the work leaves room for rest to mean neither escape nor surrender, but a moment of being together beyond ordinary weight.
