Across a restless field of competing directions, Open Motion turns pattern into a living tension between order and release. Its forms never settle into a single rhythm; they gather, interrupt one another, and press outward toward the edges. The result feels less like a fixed arrangement than a moment of continuous change, where balance is achieved through motion rather than stillness.
Orange passages give the composition a forceful center, while recurring blues and teals open cooler currents through the surrounding intensity. Between them, dark intervals act like pauses in a rapid exchange, allowing each burst of color to arrive with renewed clarity. Small touches of white and pale pink introduce brief flashes of delicacy without softening the work’s underlying momentum.
The absence of a recognizable subject leaves attention free to follow the painting’s internal weather. A diagonal impulse may become a counterweight, a cluster may suggest gathering energy, and then the whole field shifts again before any reading can become final. This instability is playful as well as commanding, inviting repeated encounters in which pattern feels discovered rather than imposed.
