OPEN LIGHT depicts ancient Celtic symbols layered over a weathered surface, lines looping endlessly. Thick palette knife strokes give the surface a physical, sculpted presence.
Paint is layered and partially scraped back, allowing underlying tones to emerge and interact with light.
The scene feels intimate and tactile, encouraging slow, reflective viewing.

The interlocking forms give Open Light a sense of thought held in motion, as if an old sign system were still unfolding beneath the eye. Red, ochre-gold, and blue-gray shapes press into one another without settling into a single reading. Their dark openings suggest passages, interruptions, or spaces where meaning has been withheld rather than resolved.
The central red form gathers the surrounding geometry into a tense exchange, linking the warmer left side with the cooler reach at right. Across this structure, looping lines return upon themselves, creating a rhythm that feels both ceremonial and unsettled. The work does not present Celtic symbolism as a fixed code; instead, it allows the suggestion of inherited knowledge to remain open, shifting with each encounter.
White and pale gray marks drift through the surrounding field like remnants of a much older inscription, interrupting the stronger blocks of color without softening their force. What emerges is less a decipherable emblem than a mental landscape of recurrence - a place where memory, pattern, and intuition meet before language takes hold.
