OPEN GENTLE depicts a calm scene of stillness, with subtle visual tension beneath the surface. Thick palette knife strokes give the surface a physical, sculpted presence.

A still horizon gives Open Gentle its particular gravity: the calm waterscape becomes an invitation to remain with what is unresolved but not disturbing. Its openness does not feel empty; the distant shore holds the scene in place, while the pale expanse above it allows attention to loosen. There is a sense of inward ease here, tempered by a subtle tension between nearness and distance.
Across the water, reflections lengthen and soften the forms they echo, suggesting how memory can preserve an impression while releasing its exact edges. Warm notes gathered along the shoreline return below in altered shape, creating a gentle exchange between what is present and what is recalled. The scene stays intimate despite its breadth, as if stillness has become a form of close attention.
That calm is not entirely passive. The darker cluster at the left gives the open water a point of resistance, and the broken far shore keeps the distance from becoming absolute. Light gathers toward the center without resolving the landscape into certainty. Instead, the painting holds a quiet interval in which solitude feels spacious, and silence carries a faint, watchful energy.
