Within a living tangle of growth, Open Field presents the turtle as a small, deliberate presence moving through abundance. Its angled position suggests neither retreat nor display, but a steady passage into the dense meadow, where every opening seems temporary. The work’s vividness carries a playful charge, while the creature’s dark head and legs give that energy a point of quiet resolve.
The patterned shell gathers blue, violet, yellow, and pale green into something like a shifting sign of belonging - marked by the world it travels through rather than separate from it. Around the turtle, flowers rise without forming a boundary, and the surrounding foliage seems to lean inward, making the scene feel less like a distant landscape than an immediate, enveloping season.
There is a gentle tension between the animal’s measured pace and the meadow’s exuberant liveliness. The turtle remains recognizable, yet its surrounding forms loosen the certainty of the scene, allowing movement and growth to become almost interchangeable. What emerges is an encounter with persistence: not grand or heroic, but vividly present amid the continual renewal around it.
