A direct encounter with watchfulness gives Open Face its particular charge: the puma seems to meet the viewer without surrendering its distance. Its asymmetrical green eyes hold different degrees of attention, creating a subtle tension between recognition and reserve. The surrounding spring growth feels less like a setting than a living threshold around that gaze.
The animal’s face is close enough to make small distinctions matter - the pale muzzle, dark ear interiors, and long white whiskers each temper its powerful presence. Rather than presenting the puma as a symbol fixed in advance, the work allows it to remain alert, self-contained, and vividly aware of what lies beyond the frame.
Among the foliage, small pink and yellow accents interrupt the deep greens with a sense of passing season. That brightness does not soften the encounter so much as complicate it, placing a solitary, watchful intelligence within a world that continues to unfold around it.
