OBSIDIAN VEIL - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Against a sky suspended between storm and radiance, Obsidian Veil considers the city as a threshold rather than a destination. Its dark towers rise into violet air, withholding their interiors while a pale opening behind them suggests that night is not complete. The skyline feels less like a fixed place than a charged interval, where distance and nearness continually exchange roles.

The scattered amber windows give this vast urban mass a human measure without dispelling its reserve. Each small light seems to mark a separate hour, a private continuation taking place beyond the reach of the surrounding darkness. The narrow tower near the center intensifies that tension, standing like a watchful seam between the crowded foreground and the receding horizon.

Above the buildings, the darkening sky gathers weight, yet the luminous band remains visible beneath it. That opposition gives the work its emotional depth: the city is neither sheltered nor abandoned, but held in suspension between exposure and concealment. Its atmosphere invites a slower kind of attention, in which the distant lights become signs of persistence rather than reassurance.
