NORTHERN BAY - FRAMED

Against the meeting of habitation and weather, Northern Bay considers how a shoreline can hold both shelter and exposure. The elevated buildings seem to gather in a precarious community, their vivid facades asserting presence above the dark water while the pale sky leaves them open to distance. What feels celebratory at first carries a more searching note: these homes belong to the edge, where certainty is always shaped by tide and stone.

The reflections do not simply repeat the structures; they loosen them into wavering fragments, as if the water were translating architecture into memory. This downward echo gives the work a double rhythm, balancing the firm horizontal line of the waterfront with a less stable world beneath it. The small boat at the far left extends that tension, suggesting movement beyond the clustered buildings without turning the scene into a fixed narrative.

A rugged rise along the right interrupts the settlement's vivid coherence and returns attention to the coast itself. Here, color becomes a form of resistance against the charcoal depths, while the scattered windows preserve an intimate scale within the broader drama. The result is a view that feels inhabited yet solitary, poised between the reassurance of home and the larger, shifting conditions that surround it.
