NEAR GESTURE presents two insects meeting at the tip of a leaf, bodies forming a subtle heart-like shape against a black and white blurred background, placing the paired figures clearly in the foreground.
The background is subdued or monochrome, allowing the connection between the subjects to dominate.
Thick palette knife strokes emphasize texture, warmth, and emotional proximity.

At the fragile threshold between recognition and retreat, Near Gesture turns a meeting into a study of suspended attention. The two insects do not seem to arrive at a conclusion; they hold close to the possibility of one, their vivid bodies carrying both attraction and alertness. The near symmetry gives their encounter a measured intensity, as though each is answering the other without surrendering its distance.
Their long antennae converge at the center, making contact feel tentative rather than assured. This small crossing becomes the emotional hinge of the work: a gesture can signal curiosity, warning, or an effort to remain connected. The tension is intimate because neither figure dominates, yet neither disappears into the other. What emerges is less a scene of harmony than a precise interval in which attention itself becomes a form of closeness.
The subdued background leaves the pair suspended in a world that feels temporarily hushed, while the leaf beneath them offers a narrow ground for their negotiation. Warm orange against deep shadow gives the encounter a pulse, but the darker lines reaching outward keep it from becoming sentimental. The work lingers on how proximity can remain charged, delicate, and unresolved.
