about this painting:
Mystery of Venice
City on water
In the collection of Leonid Afremov there are quite a lot of paintings dedicated to Italian themes depicting famous Italian cities. Among them, you can also find the paintings on the Venetian theme. Mystery of Venice is one of them.
You’ll be bewitched by the atmosphere of this mystery painting. We see a typical Venetian landscape – a river canal, a small bay with gondolas and a gondolaire steering the gondola sliding along the small canal surrounded by typical Venetian 3 storey houses. The time of day depicted on the painting also adds weirdness to the painting – the sunset or the pre-dawn twilight colored all the buildings and everything in the painting in dark blue shades with the hues of purple. In addition to these colors, only yellow can be found in the painting - the lantern attached to the dock casts its light on the water which reflects in it in the form of 2 yellow white strips.
Looking at this painting you will involuntarily have a desire to visit the city on the water, to feel its unusual atmosphere, to ride on a gondola along one of the numerous canals, to visit the Venetian carnival and try on the costume of one of the traditional characters of this carnival. However, as we see from the painting by Leonid Afremov, Venice can be not only colorful, playing with all sorts of colors, as it happens in the days of the carnival but also capricious, mysterious and even to some extent unfriendly, gloomy and sullen, as it is depicted in this painting. But as soon as the dawn comes, everything will immediately fit together. This liveliness will appear again and the city will play with new colors.
We hope that this painting will not only surprise you with its unusual colors, but will also become a kind of lever, a trigger that will start your trip to the city on water.
Discovering Venice
Everyone knows that Venice is one-of-a-kind city on the water with canals instead of streets, one-of-a-kind city, which had at a certain period of history the largest fleet in the world and the greatest political influence, despite its very small size. Let’s mark the main distinctive features of this city making it so unique:
- In Venice, there is almost no public transport: trams, buses and, of course, the metro. A variety of types of boats serve as a means of transportation. The houses are surrounded by water. In Venice, there are about 150 canals and 400 bridges.
- Venice is a cultural and educational and entertainment center, which often hosts large festivals of music, cinema and art.
- The local masters invent all sorts of hand-made craft of Murano glass – vases, dishes, ornaments.
