MUSIC NOTES AND CATS - oil painting on canvas by Leonid Afremov

MUSIC NOTES AND CATS — A lively gathering of cats turns a piano and violin into the heart of a vivid musical scene. Bursting with color and animated brushwork, this expressive composition brings playful energy to animal- and music-inspired interiors.

Four cats are arranged around the piano in a dynamic diagonal formation, leading the eye from the upper left toward the foreground. A warm orange-brown violin crosses the upper middle, while black-and-white keys appear beneath the central cat and again near the lower left. The foreground figure stands out with a pale body, darker gray, brown, and blue markings, and a red-toned nose. Turquoise, blue, violet, orange, rust, gold, white, black, and green create lively contrasts throughout. Short, thick-looking strokes and partially blended forms give the painted scene a richly tactile surface, with bright highlights drawing attention to the cats, instruments, and surrounding marks.

Well suited to music rooms, creative workspaces, reading corners, or relaxed living areas, this playful image adds character without losing visual sophistication. Its portrait orientation works especially well on a narrow wall or as part of a gallery arrangement. The combination of feline charm, recognizable instruments, and energetic color makes it an engaging focal point for viewers of all ages.
