MOON SERPENT RISE - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Across its circling tensions, Moon Serpent Rise turns myth into a language of return. The great serpentine presence does not seem to travel toward a destination; it gathers its own momentum, folding movement back into itself. Its drama lies in that suspended passage between emergence and enclosure, where the familiar shape of a serpent becomes a sign of instinct, memory, and guarded power.

The broad coil suggests a force that cannot be understood all at once. Segmented markings interrupt its body like fragments of an older vocabulary, inviting associations with ritual, protection, or knowledge held just beyond speech. Near the head, the circular orange-and-black motif gives the creature an attentive, almost emblematic focus, while the open mouth preserves an ambiguity between warning and utterance.

Within the inner coil, a red-orange opening remains conspicuously unclaimed. It can read as a hollow at the center of the myth, or as the point from which the figure continually renews itself. The surrounding reds, ochres, and dark blues keep the mood suspended between heat and shadow, making the serpent feel less like a character than a threshold - a presence that gathers mystery without resolving it.
