MONT SAINT-MICHEL TIDAL MIRROR - FRAMED

Across the tidal flats, this Mont Saint-Michel Tidal Mirror holds the abbey between presence and disappearance. Its central spire gives the distant complex a steady vertical force, while the broad reflection below unsettles that certainty, as though the island were being recalled rather than simply seen. The work finds its atmosphere in this meeting of permanence and change, where stone seems briefly dependent on the water that receives it.

The reflection is not a duplicate but a second, more fluid identity. Broken into horizontal movement, it loosens the architecture into bands of light, shadow, and suggestion, allowing the lower half of the composition to feel less like a record than an inward echo. Above it, the warm illumination on the buildings carries a restrained sense of arrival, though no particular journey is prescribed.

What remains compelling is the tension between the fortified silhouette and the open tidal expanse around it. The dark mass supporting the buildings anchors them, yet the pastel air and shallow water keep the scene suspended between geography and dream. The island can be read as a place of refuge, but also as something made remote by its own reflection - familiar enough to recognize, elusive enough to resist possession.
