about this painting:

Misty City

The night walk

In this painting by Leonid Afremov we find the landscape that is characteristic of the artist – a lonely man walks through the night city. The painting is called Misty City. However, we hardly see fog in the canvas. Instead, a man with an umbrella is surrounded by bright colors, the main source of which is the lights illuminating the night sidewalk. Their bright light gives the picture an extraordinary variegation - those colors that would look dull and gloomy become motley and bright – on the left we see the lush green of the tree whereas on the right stretch the yellow-orange walls of the houses. The pavement tile glitters from the rain and the alley along which our character walks stretches into the misty distance. Perhaps only there we find the fog in this painting. But it is not at all scary and not as gloomy as it usually is and even causes some warmth of the soul. It paints the alley and houses in turquoise colors. Where else can you find fog of this color? Perhaps, that nowhere.

The cities of fog

Walking around a misty city is available not only to the character of our painting; there are quite a few cities on our planet where fog is a very frequent phenomenon. It is hard to believe, but 343 days of fogs per year is not an absolute record. The world leader in the number of "surface clouds" is the island of Newfoundland, located off the coast of Canada. Every morning, it is enveloped by the dense wall of white fog. Among the mistiest places of America can be named such cities as:

  • Forks, Washington, covered with fog 340 days a year;
  • Prince Rupert, Colombia – a port town, during most of the time covered with darkness and a light curtain of ice fog;
  • Vancouver – a Canadian town, which is famous for its icy mists, which are an impenetrable wall;
  • San Francisco is the administrative center of California, in which the fog season lasts 230 days a year.

Walk around your city in any weather and enjoy its colors – each city has its own unique atmosphere – just feel it.

I bought Misty Mood a few weeks ago, and it's the first painting I have ever bought, which is saying a lot for a 30+ year old. I absolutely adore the colors and the calmness of the painting, but I love the over all style.

We are the proud owners of 45 of Leonid's master pieces and counting! Our latest acquisition is the exquisite and rare Somewhere in Israel. It just arrived and it is glorious. Ordering a paining of a place where you actually lived is always risky as your appreciation of the painting is going to reflect your own experiences and memories. Amazingly, Leonid captures everything so incredibly well: light, color, texture, architecture, plants, even the color of earth, pavement, and houses. We have a full collection in every room. The paintings are new every time you look at them, because you see a figure or a face or an animal hidden in the palate strokes you somehow missed before. Amazing! Pure genius. Modern day Chagal!! Thank you Boris and David for fantastic customer support. Waiting on the Sun of July. I'm sure it will be as amazing as everything else.

I have purchased 4 of your paintings: 3 Park Scenes and a Ballerina and each one is breathtaking!!. I have given them as gifts to my family and they are all blown away with the colors. I have just purchased another of your paintings and can't wait for it to arrive. Love your work, each piece is unique.
