about this painting:
The night walk
In this painting by Leonid Afremov we find the landscape that is characteristic of the artist – a lonely man walks through the night city. The painting is called Misty City. However, we hardly see fog in the canvas. Instead, a man with an umbrella is surrounded by bright colors, the main source of which is the lights illuminating the night sidewalk. Their bright light gives the picture an extraordinary variegation - those colors that would look dull and gloomy become motley and bright – on the left we see the lush green of the tree whereas on the right stretch the yellow-orange walls of the houses. The pavement tile glitters from the rain and the alley along which our character walks stretches into the misty distance. Perhaps only there we find the fog in this painting. But it is not at all scary and not as gloomy as it usually is and even causes some warmth of the soul. It paints the alley and houses in turquoise colors. Where else can you find fog of this color? Perhaps, that nowhere.
The cities of fog
Walking around a misty city is available not only to the character of our painting; there are quite a few cities on our planet where fog is a very frequent phenomenon. It is hard to believe, but 343 days of fogs per year is not an absolute record. The world leader in the number of "surface clouds" is the island of Newfoundland, located off the coast of Canada. Every morning, it is enveloped by the dense wall of white fog. Among the mistiest places of America can be named such cities as:
- Forks, Washington, covered with fog 340 days a year;
- Prince Rupert, Colombia – a port town, during most of the time covered with darkness and a light curtain of ice fog;
- Vancouver – a Canadian town, which is famous for its icy mists, which are an impenetrable wall;
- San Francisco is the administrative center of California, in which the fog season lasts 230 days a year.
Walk around your city in any weather and enjoy its colors – each city has its own unique atmosphere – just feel it.
