MELTED MIRROR - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

At the edge of waking, where darkness gives way to radiance, Melted Mirror turns reflection into a state of uncertainty. Its luminous center suggests a horizon, yet the scene refuses to settle into a recognisable place, holding the viewer between emergence and return.

The bright horizontal divide carries the tension of a threshold. Above it, violet, blue, and amber forms gather as though drawn toward an opening; below, their broken counterparts drift across the darker field. The symmetry is present but never exact, allowing the reflected world to feel less like a copy than a second, shifting reality.

Warm light rises through the central axis while navy and black press inward from the edges. This contrast gives the work its inward pull: illumination appears not as a fixed destination, but as something briefly uncovered within surrounding uncertainty. The saturated colour lends the scene a dreamlike intensity without resolving its meaning.

Near the lower edge, the reflection loses definition and becomes more fragmentary, as though the surface could no longer preserve what it has received. That gradual dissolution keeps the painting open to several readings - a passage, a memory, or an imagined landscape seen only in passing. Its drama lies in this unstable balance between revelation and disappearance.
