LUNAR WAVES - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Suspended between restless movement and nocturnal stillness, Lunar Waves turns the moon into an imagined point of return, a presence that gathers the surrounding darkness without dispelling it. Its pale radiance seems to steady the sweeping bands below, while the solitary tree leans into that distant light as though listening for a direction. The scene feels less like a view of nature than a threshold between the seen world and a more private, dreamlike realm.

The tree’s bare branches give the composition a vulnerable, searching character. Set against the luminous sky, they reach beyond the shoreline’s firm ground and into open space, making stillness feel active rather than empty. Around it, the layered movement suggests water, wind, or memory - forces that never quite settle, yet remain held within the moon’s calm orbit.

Warm ochre ground at the lower edge keeps the vision connected to something earthly, even as the deep blue expanse invites a more mysterious reading. The scattered points of light do not explain the darkness; they deepen its distance. What remains is a quiet tension between exposure and shelter, with the tree standing at the meeting place of solid land, shifting currents, and unreachable light.
