about this painting:
Leonid's painting conveys to you all the romance that was invariably present in a love letter – namely this depicts the painting. And it really seems that it is imbued with romance. It can be said about each its element – in the center of the composition we see a large vase with multi-colored roses – their delicate lilac blue and yellow buds wonderfully contrast with the bright green petals. In addition, we see several small buds on the table – obviously they did not find their place in the vase – the gentlemen did not stint on the gift for the object of their adoration and now the lady is ready to sit on the table and scribble love letters to her fans all night long. Everything is ready for this – a small candle is lit on the table, its drop-like flame strips upwards with a thin tongue – it seems that a few centimeters will be enough for it to set the green rose petals on fire; a pen rests in the inkwell, waiting for someone to take it to set it slipping on a smooth paper sheet. In the background you can see the curtain, although it almost blends with pastel tones, but we still see blue and purple shades.
Let us turn from love letters to letters in general and cite some interesting information about them.
- For many centuries, letters remained the only communication between people at a distance. People trusted a piece of paper with their innermost feelings and thoughts. Letters has become an inexhaustible fount of information for historians.
- Not surprisingly, in the literature of the XVII-XIX centuries, the epistolary genre prevailed – the plot of some novels was based solely on the correspondence of characters or character.
- For those who lacked their own thoughts and style, special "letter books" were issued – they included samples of a wide variety of written messages – from requests and complaints to superiors to love explanations and congratulations.
We sincerely hope that this canvas will immerse you in the atmosphere of romance and good old times, at a time when men were more courageous and ladies more sincere. When valor and honor came first!
