Between mortal darkness and a radiance that feels almost beyond the world, Living State considers the grim reaper not as a fixed emblem of ending, but as a presence caught at the threshold of change. The hooded figure stands with a guarded stillness, its face withheld and its staff rising like a sign whose meaning remains deliberately unsettled.
The warm opening behind the figure gives the scene its central tension. It may suggest revelation, passage, or the last illumination before certainty disappears, while the surrounding dusk resists any simple reading of comfort. The work’s drama comes from this refusal to separate menace from wonder.
Across the lower field, cool blue forms extend like a waking landscape after an unseen event. They keep the figure from becoming merely theatrical, returning it to a world that feels vast, lucid, and strangely impersonal. What remains is less a portrait of death than an encounter with the moment when familiar boundaries begin to loosen.
