Across its weathered horizontal strata, Layered Mark holds a sense of time without offering a fixed story. The composition moves from cool, open blue through muted rose and mauve toward a central glint of gold, then descends into burgundy, violet, and near-black depths. That progression suggests not a landscape but an inward passage, where brightness appears as a charged interval rather than a destination. The uneven bands resist perfect order, giving the work an earthy gravity and a quietly dramatic pulse.
The central gold passage acts like a seam between different states of feeling, carrying both radiance and wear. Above it, fractured blue forms seem suspended in air; below, darker strata gather with greater weight, as though memory has settled there. The small pale mark at the lower right does little to resolve the composition. Instead, it leaves the work open to association - a record of change, endurance, and the persistence of color after certainty has faded.
