about this painting:

Italy – Verona

Italian Evening

Have you ever been to Verona? Those who have not been there have a unique chance to answer the question of whether they represented this city namely in the way Leonid Afremov portrayed it in his famous artwork created in Italy, Verona. Through the canvas we feel the amazing atmosphere of such an authentic Italian city like Verona. According to Leonid it is practically an island surrounded by water from all sides. We see the lights tenderly reflecting in the night sea. This gives the image a truly fabulous atmosphere. They softly lighten the sky above it giving it a delicate blue shade. Closely pressed against each other, small houses built in truly Italian style are cozily located on the hill. All their appearance – colors and shapes – resembles the Italian style. On the horizon of the island stretches a ridge of lush green trees. Their thin and long tops are directed into the night Italian sky. And on the very top of the hill we see a towering castle or just a tower - a shinning symbol of a real medieval city. But still we understand that the artist has surely depicted a modern city - along the shore stretches the line of electric lights - reflecting on the sea surface they paint water and houses standing on the shore in unthinkable colors. To the right, on the horizon, we see a bright yellow light pouring the tops of the trees. Maybe it's the light of a lighthouse standing somewhere in the middle of the sea.

Looking at the canvas involuntarily you begin to envy the inhabitants of this beautiful town, who surely know nothing about calamities and shocks being accustomed to their traditional way of life and do not imagine their life in any other place.

City of love and romance

Verona is a city of love and romance, a place where Roman and medieval architectural monuments coexist peacefully along with Romanesque and Gothic churches and Renaissance palaces. On its picturesque streets you will find crowds of tourists wandering and admiring the stunningly beautiful buildings and sights. What are the secrets of Verona?

  1. The actions of the famous play of Shakespeare take place on the tiny streets of this city, because Verona is the place where Romeo and Juliet found their love.
  2. In the city there is a monument to Juliet. Hundreds of tourists ask her every day to bestow them some happiness. It is interesting that they do it by touching Juliet's breast.
  3. Verona hosts the famous Arena - Roman Amphitheater. The structure is so well preserved (even if we take into account that only a small part remained of the outer ring) that those who wish can visit various opera performances that are held in the evenings.
