about this painting:

Italian noon

Italian siesta

Leonid Afremov invites you to spend a noon in a small Italian town and experience this unforgettable atmosphere. Those of you who have visited such places will surely feel a unique similarity, but for those who did not this painting opens up a wide horizon for imagination. From all appearances it is clear that the artist was in many towns like this one. He managed very well to convey the mood and color of Italy. The picture shows a small street in a small provincial Italian town. You can see a slightly curved line of two-story houses made in one style all along it. Their sand color gently harmonizes with the red flowers curling all across their walls. There are a lot of them. Growing from pots standing along the houses they stretch to the roof. The others stand on balconies in long pots. A warm climate and a long summer create all the conditions for their lush flowering. Flower lovers and gardeners will certainly guess in them one of their favorite flowers. The facade of one of the houses in the foreground of the painting is decorated with something round. Perhaps this is a government building that is adorned with the coat of arms indicating its destination. But we can also assume that this house belonged to some noble family for several centuries and it is the arms of this family that decorate this house. The neighboring house is decorated with whole thickets of some green plant. From a distance it may seem that this is a whole bush. All the details are painted very clearly and give us a unique opportunity to enjoy the splendor of this unknown town. Perhaps once you visit Italy you will find this town and will be extremely surprised by its striking similarity with the painting.

Cozy Italy

For the travelers and Italy lovers we propose a list of the most beautiful small Italian towns which will amaze by its charm and beauty:

  1. Vernazza is considered the most organic, beautiful and picturesque town of the Italian Cinque Terre of Liguria. Today its population consists of a little more than a thousand people, so Vernazza is also one of the quietest towns, and only the calm Manarola can compete with it.
  2. Portofino - the resort of the Ligurian coast. It is surrounded by hills, covered with olive trees. The whole town spreads before the eyes of the tourists from the windows of the cable car. Guy De Maupassant who was its constant visitor, wrote, "This green bay in the realm of harmony and peace so contrasts with all the vain troubles of our life”.
  3. Atrani is a small town on the western coast of Italy, in the region of Campania, in the province of Salerno. Atrani carefully keeps its medieval origin – its picturesque alleys, arches, courtyards, squares and staircases is similar to the festive Christmas decorations washed by the sea.

I purchased Tropical Fiesta to showcase one wall in our new condo. The colors and theme match the energy and beauty that we are filling our space with. We searched long and hard for an artist whose style reflects what pleases our senses. I want more of Afremov's works.

A month ago a friend of mine sent me a powerpoint presentation with French philosophical thoughts. I however had only eye for the background... the paintings of an unknown artist. I managed to decipher his name and checked out the website of mr. Afremov. It had been a very long time since I literally gasped for breath when I saw a painting. When I saw "Together in the storm", this feeling of immense joy, admiration that someone can actually paint this (and especially rain!), and gratitude that it didn't cost a fortune, was there again. I received my painting yesterday, beautifully stretched. It has found a safe home in Flanders and a strategic place in my study where I can admire it while working.
