HOWL OF DAWN

Between the mountain’s silence and the rising light, Howl of Dawn gives a solitary animal the force of a witness rather than a mere inhabitant of the landscape. Its lifted head turns toward the bright horizon, as if answering a change already moving through the cold air. The surrounding peaks do not enclose it so much as intensify its presence, making the open mouth feel like an utterance carried beyond the visible world.

The work’s emotional center lies in the meeting of opposing temperatures. Warm gold and orange gather around the low sun, while blue-gray shadow holds the wolf and the snowbound ridges in a more guarded register. That tension allows the scene to remain unsettled: the light promises emergence, yet the vastness around it retains something ancient and severe.

The animal’s profile is sharply defined against the sky, but its identity remains less narrative than elemental. It could suggest vigilance, release, or a call across distances where no answer is assured. Beneath the broad clouded expanse, the diagonal ridges lead the eye toward that suspended exchange between voice and horizon, giving the image a sense of arrival without resolving what has begun.
