HOLLOW TREE - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Against a charged horizon of ember and indigo, Hollow Tree becomes a study in endurance shaped by absence. Its massive trunk rises like a surviving presence, while the bare branches reach into shifting color without offering any clear destination. The dark opening at its base gives the work its emotional gravity - not simply a wound, but a threshold where shelter, memory, and uncertainty seem to meet.

The surrounding grasses burn with an intensity that makes the tree feel both rooted and estranged. Warm reds press close to its lower body, while cooler blue notes along the trunk suggest another atmosphere passing through it. This tension keeps the scene from settling into either ruin or renewal; the tree appears suspended between what has been emptied and what may still endure.

A narrower opening higher on the trunk deepens that sense of inwardness, as though the darkness is not confined to the ground but travels upward through the living form. Above it, the fine branches divide the luminous field into fragile lines, turning the surrounding radiance into something distant and almost celestial. The result is a landscape of solitude with a distinctly watchful presence.
