A raven held at the edge of recognition, Hidden State turns watchfulness into a state of suspended judgment. The bird’s sharply defined profile faces outward, yet its dark presence feels inwardly absorbed, as though attention itself has become a burden. Blue-gray traces along the head and wing keep the figure from settling into pure shadow, suggesting thought that remains active beneath restraint.
The work’s tension gathers around the divide between concealment and revelation. Warm red-orange light rises behind and below the bird, not resolving its silence but making it more charged. This contrast gives the raven a psychological weight beyond simple solitude: it seems poised between departure and endurance, carrying an unreadable intention that the surrounding darkness cannot fully contain.
