HAVANA SUNSET WALTZ - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Across a street of compressed façades, Havana Sunset Waltz turns architecture into a rhythm of arrival and pause. The adjoining buildings do not settle into a single mood: electric blue gives way to incandescent yellow and coral, then gathers force again in vivid pink. Their ordered windows and balconies suggest a civic measure, while the deep arches below interrupt it with shadow, withholding whatever lies beyond.

The work’s energy comes from that tension between public form and private uncertainty. Repeated columns and shuttered bays create a sense of ceremony, yet the lower openings remain dark enough to resist easy reading. The street seems briefly suspended between the day’s last brightness and the life that continues behind closed thresholds, with color carrying the atmosphere more insistently than any visible figure.

In the foreground, scattered blue and pink glints break across the dark paving, extending the façades into an unstable afterimage. This keeps the scene from feeling fixed or purely architectural; it becomes a passage shaped by changing light, remembered movement, and the charged silence that can gather after a crowded street has begun to empty.
