about this painting:
Behind the curtain
All the excitement that feels the ballerina –the master of the dance of grace – behind the curtain is conveyed by another amazing painting by Leonid Afremov – Grace. Before us is a young girl sitting on a bench straightening her outfit. Having put her one foot on the toe she tackles the folds on her tights. Although the image is rather blurry and we can hardly determine her actions. Her wide tutu reflects its blueness all across the painting. This plume stretches in a spiral beyond the back of the ballerina and ends at the left of the picture. The thick strands of her hair neatly combed to the right meet up the knee of our character. Of course, before going on stage, she would need to carefully pin it up, but now she has the opportunity to keep it like this. It can be so that this helps her somehow to cope with the excitement that everyone experiences before going on stage. And of course, our character being quite young is no exception.
As always, in the panting the artist used a variety of bright colors – orange, brown, blue, yellow and others. The bench on which the ballet dancer sits looks almost transparent. This gives lightness to the entire canvas.
From the history of the ballet
To further draw your attention to the ballet, we have prepared for you some interesting facts from the history of Russian ballet:
- Based on the decree of Peter I, ballroom dancing becomes the main part of court etiquette.
- In the specially equipped rooms of the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, Jean Baptiste Lande trained 12 Russian boys and girls. Pupils were recruited among children of simple origin. The classes were free and all the expenses were born by the state.
- The next milestone of the ballet in Russia dates back to the reign of Elizabeth. Nikita Beketov, who later became Elizabeth's favorite, was among the best ballet dancers.
The grace and elegance of ballet you will be able to enjoy every day if you get this painting. For you, this dance will always remain young as the heroine of our painting.
