Tenderness here takes the form of an interruption, where rest and departure seem to meet without resolving each other. In Goodbye My Shoes, a small dog settles against a blue high-top sneaker as though the object has become less a possession than a temporary companion. The dog’s open, searching gaze gives the scene a gentle uncertainty, balanced between contentment and the sense that something has been left behind.
The low vantage draws attention to the dog’s unguarded weight and the closeness of its face to the shoe. That contact feels quietly familiar, like a pause taken before movement resumes, though the surrounding darkness keeps the moment from becoming wholly lighthearted. The bright blue accent lends the encounter a playful note, but also makes the abandoned-looking shoe feel strangely conspicuous.
What remains is an intimate tension between loyalty and release. The dog does not appear to be guarding the sneaker so much as keeping company with it, turning an ordinary object into a witness to absence. Soft illumination gathers around the face and toe, allowing the work to hold weariness and affection together without deciding which one will last.
