Golden Shadows at Kiyomizu - 100% hand-painted oil painting on canvas

Between lived streets and distant weather, Golden Shadows at Kiyomizu turns a descending path into a passage through changing time. The hillside city feels close enough to enter, yet the snow-capped mountain holds the gaze beyond its layered roofs and ridgelines. Warm light gathers along the route as if briefly making an order out of the many directions a life can take.

The work’s serenity comes with a sense of movement. The path leads away from the elevated viewpoint, while the buildings remain gathered in dense horizontal tiers, suggesting a place shaped by continuity rather than stillness. Autumn foliage presses in from the edges, giving the scene the feeling of a season at its fullest - vivid, generous, and already beginning to pass.

That tension between arrival and departure is carried by the light. Golden passages across the walkway and rooftops do not erase the long shadows; they make them legible. Brightness becomes less a declaration than a temporary interval, revealing how the familiar city can appear newly charged when seen from above and held at a distance.

Beyond the intimate scale of the hillside, the mountain offers a steadier measure of time. Its cool summit and the blue-violet distance temper the warmth below without breaking its calm. The result is a contemplative view in which the path, the clustered homes, and the far horizon remain connected by the possibility of onward movement.
