GOLDEN AVENUE - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Between enclosing towers and a distant opening, Golden Avenue turns the city into a passage of concentrated light and withheld arrival. Its severe perspective draws attention toward the center, where the avenue seems to gather itself before continuing beyond sight. The darkness of the surrounding structures gives the illuminated route a feeling of direction without promising a destination.

Golden windows punctuate the façades like signs of lives briefly glimpsed rather than fully known. Their clustered warmth resists the anonymity of the architecture, suggesting that even the most imposing city remains composed of private interiors, passing hours, and people just beyond view.

Below, the roadway carries the city downward in broken reflections, making the light appear doubled and less certain. This mirrored movement complicates the avenue’s apparent order: the straight route remains present, yet its lower half dissolves into shifting marks, as though memory has entered the scene.

The pale opening at the vanishing point offers no clear escape, only a change in atmosphere. It may be morning, distance, or simply the eye adjusting after the surrounding darkness. That ambiguity gives the work its dramatic stillness, holding the city between arrival and departure.
