GHOSTS OF CELEBRATION - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Between radiance and retreat, Ghosts of Celebration follows the afterglow of a shared passage through shifting currents. The gathering of warm fish at the left suggests an arrival still charged with brightness, while the cooler procession moving outward feels less like departure than a gradual dispersal of energy. Its underwater setting makes that transition weightless, suspended between recollection and motion.

The luminous center holds the scene open, giving the passing forms room to seem both purposeful and dreamlike. Clearly marked eyes and fins lend each fish a distinct presence, yet their close movement binds them into something collective. The work does not settle on whether celebration belongs to the gathering or to the moment after it, when vivid impressions continue traveling through memory.

Toward the darker lower edges, the procession acquires a more inward register. Gold, orange, and red recede into blue, violet, and white, as if warmth were being carried into deeper water rather than lost. This gradual change gives the image its emotional tension: joy remains visible, but never still, moving beyond the glow into an uncertain and spacious quiet.
