GENTLE GLYPH explores ancient symbolic shapes inspired by Mayan aesthetics, cut by thin bright streaks, shaped by scraped textures through layered palette knife textures and sculptural strokes.
Bold impasto ridges catch shifting light, while scraped passages reveal underlying hues and tonal variation.
The composition invites close viewing, highlighting movement, contrast, and expressive material presence.

Ancient signs become a language of interruption in Gentle Glyph 2, where four contained forms seem to hold different conditions of silence and release. The paired arrangement suggests order, yet the dark divisions between the panels keep that order from settling into certainty. Each glyph-like shape feels less like a fixed symbol than a fragment of a system whose meaning has been partly withheld.
The rounded openings and elongated channels create a measured rhythm across the composition, joining the four sections without making them identical. Their repetition carries the impression of ritual, while the weathered shifts of rust, ochre, teal, and muted purple resist any single historical reading. The work may be approached as an invented script for states that are sensed before they are understood.
Its drama lies in the tension between enclosure and passage. The forms appear to guard their inner spaces, but the angled extensions and narrow breaks imply movement beyond the boundaries that contain them. A small pale mark near the lower edge offers a final disturbance to the otherwise emphatic structure, like a trace left after the larger language has fallen silent.
