FREE STATE - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Against an unsettled field of color, Free State turns the language of money into a meditation on movement, pressure, and exchange. Its stacked forms suggest value being assembled, divided, and passed onward, yet their irregular relationships resist the clean logic of a ledger. The work feels energetic without becoming celebratory, holding abundance and instability in the same visual balance.

The horizontal bands gather like fragments of a system that is constantly rearranging itself. Bright turquoise, yellow, orange, and violet carry an immediate charge, while dark openings interrupt their momentum. These breaks keep the composition from settling into a single reading: wealth may appear orderly from a distance, but closer attention reveals negotiation, friction, and uneven access.

The pale space around the central structure gives its density room to breathe, though it never fully releases the pressure within. Each tier seems to depend on the next, creating a sense of interconnection that is both sturdy and precarious. The arrangement can suggest currency, architecture, or coded signals without belonging entirely to any one of them.

What remains is a vivid image of value as something made visible through relationship rather than possession. The contrasting blocks do not resolve into a fixed emblem; they remain active, shifting between object and idea. In that refusal of final definition, the painting finds a contemporary freedom - not escape from systems, but the possibility of seeing their structure anew.
