Suspended between spectacle and stillness, Fountain Spray Flight turns a brief passage through water into a study of momentum, attention, and release. The dragonfly faces us directly, its broad wings held open as if the surrounding spray has momentarily gathered around its movement. Rather than making nature feel separate from the city, the work lets both occupy the same charged instant.
The fountain’s rising arcs create a rhythm that seems to propel the insect upward, while the dark basin below gathers a second, less certain version of the scene. Reflections break the boundary between what is present and what is remembered, giving the image an atmosphere of motion even at its most centered point.
Cool blue-green air meets the warmer glow of distant buildings, suggesting an evening where artificial light does not diminish the living presence at its center. The small accents of color along the edge keep the setting from becoming anonymous, hinting at a public place briefly transformed by weather, illumination, and flight.
There is a tension here between fragility and command. The dragonfly appears delicate, yet its position makes it the visual force that organizes the water, light, and surrounding darkness. Its forward-facing presence can feel less like an arrival than a moment of suspension before the scene resumes its restless movement.
