about this painting:
The golden season
Autumn is a golden season when trees are putting on their best suits and compete for the title “The Queen of the Fall”. But this beauty has a very short life: in a couple of weeks, vibrant leaves are tumbling down and nature is preparing for a long dream that will end with the first spring sun beam. Autumn is a rather ambiguous time of the year: on one hand, we have a change to enjoy the last warm days and bright sceneries, but on the other hand, dull rains and heavy fogs give us a melancholic mood. This enigmatic duality has been repeatedly reflected in landscape paintings, modern and classical. Plunge into its solitary charm and admire the riot of colors surrounding you by casting a look at this marvelous canvas by Leonid Afremov!
During his life, Leonid Afremov has created an immense number of landscape paintings, and each of them has something special about it. This one takes us to a nice autumn park that is part of a big cityscape somewhere in an old town. You won’t trace skyscrapers or other tall buildings here; old-fashioned streetlights burning softly and reassuringly make you feel warm and cozy. There is only one person in this park, and you can only make suggestions:
· Who is this lonely silhouette? Is it a man or a woman?
· What could make him or her leave their home and take a stroll along this foggy path covered with cold puddles?
· Why is this character dressed in black: do these dark clothes symbolize a tragic moment in the character’s life or simply show the taste of an owner?
· Where is this person heading to? What is waiting for him or her at the end of the road?
There are a lot of other questions that can come to your mind when you see this lonesome silhouette. But even if you are no dreamer and inventing stories is not your cup of coffee, you will like this painting because of its vibrant colors and warm autumn aura. After all, the best things in the world are simple and easy, aren’t they?
