Flowing Dreams - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

A lowered gaze gives Flowing Dreams its inward gravity, drawing attention away from spectacle and toward a moment of guarded feeling. The woman appears suspended between presence and retreat, her head inclined as though listening to something that can be sensed but not spoken. Her expression remains open to interpretation, carrying serenity without erasing the tension beneath it.

The sweeping red hair creates the work’s emotional current, circling the figure in broad, rising arcs. It can suggest thought in motion, or a private energy that refuses to settle. Against the cooler blue and green forms, its movement feels less decorative than psychological - an external trace of what the lowered eyes keep concealed.

The raised hand near the chest introduces a note of self-awareness. With its red-painted nails, it seems poised between protection and acknowledgment, as if the figure has caught herself in an unguarded thought. This small gesture keeps the portrait from becoming purely passive, giving its stillness a subtle resistance.

Around the face, the contrasting fields of color create an atmosphere that feels dreamlike without becoming remote. The pale features hold the viewer’s attention, while the surrounding shapes keep the scene from resolving into a fixed story. What remains is a poised encounter with inwardness, where longing, composure, and uncertainty briefly occupy the same space.
