Its interlocking forms give Floating Structure a charged shape for contemplating the grateful dead - not as a fixed memorial, but as a force that remains active beyond absence. The work holds mourning and vitality in the same visual field, allowing remembrance to feel less like stillness than a current passing through the mind. Its intensity is balanced by an underlying sense of order.
At the center, a luminous opening gathers the surrounding movement without resolving it. Cream, yellow, and orange passages suggest emergence, though what emerges remains deliberately uncertain - memory, release, or a sudden return of feeling. Around this brightness, the composition seems to fold inward and outward at once, making grief appear capable of transformation without losing its gravity.
The darker rounded forms lend the surrounding energy a grave, watchful presence, while magenta, purple, teal, and red movements keep the image from settling into solemnity. This tension gives the work its emotional charge: the departed are not reduced to silence, and the living are not released from remembering. Meaning remains in motion, held between darkness and illumination.
