FLOATING STATE - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Suspended between turbulence and release, Floating State turns the idea of the grateful dead toward a realm where form seems to loosen its attachment to the visible world. Its interlocking currents do not describe a place or event; they suggest an inward passage, animated by forces that feel both earthly and dreamlike. The work holds disappearance and renewal in the same restless breath.

A luminous yellow center opens through the surrounding blues and violets like a moment of sudden recognition. Around it, warmer colors gather and fold into one another, keeping the composition in motion without allowing it to settle. This brightness may be read as gratitude, though it remains inseparable from the darker currents that frame it.

The curled forms introduce a sense of return, as if energy were circling back rather than moving toward a final destination. A dark teal band crossing the central field briefly gathers the surrounding movement, creating a pause that feels less like stillness than suspended thought. What emerges is not a fixed symbol, but a shifting relationship between weight and ascent.

Across the lower reaches, blue, turquoise, cream, and green bands carry the composition onward, giving its abstractions a fluid, almost tidal rhythm. The image resists a single emotional verdict: it can feel celebratory, elegiac, or simply charged with the recognition that endings may continue in altered forms. Its intensity lies in that refusal to separate loss from transformation.
