FLICKER OF MEMORY - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

At the edge where recollection loses its outline, Flicker of Memory opens into a suspended passage between obscurity and recognition. Its pale central radiance feels less like a destination than a moment of return, briefly recovered before it slips back into the surrounding violet hush. The work invites attention to what memory preserves unevenly: an atmosphere, a glimmer, the sense of having been somewhere without being able to name it.

The darker lower field gathers that uncertainty into a reflective interval, where broken gold marks suggest traces rather than settled facts. They do not resolve the scene; instead, they give the impression of impressions surfacing and dispersing, as though the past were being felt through fragments. The surrounding depth holds both intimacy and distance, allowing the image to remain open without becoming vague.

Near the center, light seems to pass through rather than illuminate, softening the boundary between inner vision and the world beyond it. This gives the painting its dreamlike tension: it offers no fixed narrative, yet carries the emotional weight of a remembered place whose details have faded while its atmosphere remains.
