About Leonid Afremov Studio - https://afremov.com/visit-my-studio.html
about this painting:
In his famous dance paintings Leonid Afremov depicts ballerinas in the most elegant ballet poses using mainly soft colors that are in a perfect match with this art. But in this canvas he depicted the main character using the colors that are not associated with ballet in any way –
Usually he uses these colors to represent autumn landscapes, which are very numerous in his collection. But this time, in one picture, he was able to combine two seemingly incompatible topics – ballet and autumn. And again, the figure of the little ballerina literally breathes with elegance and grace. Each movement of this fragile girl is exact up to centimeters. It seems that she depicts a bird – her widely spaced hands symbolize wings. So it seems that she is ready to take off – she is so light and airy. Slightly tilting her waist to one side, she makes the border of her dress soar upward; it resembles the tail of a bird. Her right foot is pressed by the left, so that the right foot is firmly pressed to the left knee, while the left foot is on the toe. It seems that the girl has the most ordinary dress, but this is far from the case. Ballerinas use special clothing that allows them to move without restraint, and a dress that seems to be made of the most ordinary tissue can be very expensive because it is actually sewn from a special material. In any case, it cannot be argued that this dress looks very elegant on the dancer.
The artist painted the background of the dance panting as always in the form of strokes, but this time he did not use as many colors as in other paintings. Such colors he used are more consistent with more energetic dances such as flamenco, tango and others, but in no way associated with ballet. Showing this type of art in new colors, the artist is trying to arouse in us ever stronger love for it. This dance painting by Leonid Afremov will certainly make you love ballet.
