about this painting:
Evening with a Guitar
In the still lifes of Leonid Afremov, we always find the objects that are conducive to creativity and inspiration. So, in this oil painting called Evening with a Guitar with the image of a bright bouquet of flowers and a glass with alcoholic drinks we find all the elements that can inspire anyone to the creation of something really monumental. Among other things, on the table, the artist depicted a stack of books – a symbol of wisdom and knowledge. It is no secret that all great people, including poets who wrote great poems, were very well-read. And as you know earlier, books were one of the most important sources of knowledge and a tool of their transmission. Few could afford to buy a book. It was considered real wealth. People had to travel hundreds of kilometers to visit the library. And this journey fully paid off. Indeed, in the end, they received the knowledge for which they went and which they couldn’t get from anyone else. The canvas is called Evening with a Guitar, however, in the oil painting we see a violin or a cello rather than a guitar. It lies between a vase and a stack of books on which stands a glass. Near the vase are 3 apples. Apple is also one of the symbols of wisdom.
The wealth of knowledge
Now let’s talk about books. As we have said over the centuries, they have been the main source of knowledge and they are clearly worthy to write about. It seems to us that the most interesting thing for you will be to find out how the first books were created:
- of The first books, similar to modern ones, appeared around the 1st century AD. They were really made of wood. Melted wax was poured onto the plank pages, and while it was still soft, it was smoothed.
- The writing tool was solidified wax with a sharp metal stick.
- Several planks were connected with a lace into a little book.
We are sure that this canvas will not only create a romantic mood, but will also inspire you to gain new knowledge.
