about this painting:
Evening river St. Petersburg
Magnificent night
The Petersburg set of paintings by Leonid Afremov cannot be called completely Petersburg because everyone who has been to this city remembers the greyness of buildings and most of you probably associate this city with bad weather. Indeed, it often rains here, but the set of 3 painting of Leonid Afremov more closely resembles Venice with its canals, while the two boats standing at the pier can easily be called gondolas. The brightness of the landscape is created due to the large number of bright colors that the artist used in the painting. Also on the canvas we find quite a lot of blue – this is an image of the clean surface of the channel and the light blue of the sky. As you know, there are polar nights in St. Petersburg – this period lasts from May to July, and then the city does not plunge into the darkness for a minute. Most likely, the artist depicted precisely this period and it is rather difficult to understand what time of day is shown in the painting. Maybe this is dead of night because on the sidewalks we do not see a single passerby. The streets are completely deserted.
The triptych creates a single ensemble and is perceived as one painting. Of course, you can divide it and feel the Petersburg atmosphere in several rooms at once. But we still recommend not to do this and hang three pictures next to each other.
City of rivers
Of course you know that St. Petersburg is also called Northern Venice. For good reason! The city has a huge number of canals and rivers. That's what we want to tell you about them. So here are some interesting facts about the rivers and canals of St. Petersburg:
- A total of about 93 rivers, their branches, canals, and channels flow within the boundaries of St. Petersburg. Their length is 300 kilometers.
- Neva is one of the most full-flowing rivers in the European part of Russia. It is exceeded only by the Volga, Danube, Kama, and Pechora
- In the Neva Delta, there are about 40 islands. The exact number of islands is difficult to determine, in 19th century it was believed that there were 101. Now approximately from 33 to 42 islands are known.
Enjoy the Petersburg atmosphere in the set of oil paintings by Leonid Afremov!
