about this painting:

PICTURESQUE SEA VIEW

Talent from Belarus

Every person who is aware of the latest trends in contemporary art has heard the name of Leonid Afremov. He revolutionized the art as we know it in a way, though never trying to impress anyone on purpose. He was simply doing what he liked.

Afremov was born in Vitebsk in 1955. He early discovered his artistic talent, however, it was rather difficult to shine in the conditions of a communist country. In 1990 his family and he moved to Israeli. They remain citizens of this country ip until this moment, despite the fact that the whole family lived first in the USA and then in Mexico for many years.

Only after moving to the States, he finally had the opportunity to show his art to the world and quickly became famous. Different online selling platforms, such as Ebay, for example, played a crucial role.

Shining in the darkness

On this painting of a lighthouse, you can see a quiet surface of the sea lit with the last rays of the sun. Such landscapes are typical for Afremov’s art; no wonder, since the sea is one of the most gorgeous and fascinating things to draw. Let’s pay attention to some little details of this painting that will help us understand more about Afremov’s personality and artistic view.

  • The composition

On his paintings, you will never see a complicated composition or intricated plot. The line of the horizon usually divides his canvas in two parts. Sometimes he adds small details like a lonely human figure or a couple of small fishing boats to make his works more realistic.

  • The colors

Afremov likes to keep it simple when we are talking about the composition, but adds a lot of color in all possible variations. Bright color palette is an unmistakable sign of his works. He likes contrasts, for example, to use violet and orange at the same time. Or brown and sandy-yellow.

  • The atmosphere

Afremov is a very peaceful man who avoids conflict in any way. You can feel it through his paintings, since they are never aggressive or violent. On the other hand, he paints to spread happiness and positivity in the world. You will notice straight away that his paintings act like some kind of antistress for those who look at them.

All this traits are clearly visible here. The lighthouse on the right side of the painting is the only detail that distracts our attention from the clouds and the sea surface. Then you know small boats here and there. It is really stunning how peaceful and quiet this simple observation makes you feel.
