EMBERS OF TIME - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Between darkness and duration, Embers of Time sets living fire against the measured authority of a watch, turning a woodland clearing into a place where two kinds of time meet. The flames suggest the immediate present - warmth, risk, and change - while the clock face introduces a colder sequence that continues whether anyone is watching. Their proximity gives the scene its unease: what feels momentary may already belong to memory.

The stacked logs deepen this tension. Their cut ends carry the evidence of years gathered into a single, usable form, awaiting the same fire that makes the surrounding darkness recede. This is not simply a scene of shelter or solitude, but a meditation on what is preserved by being consumed. The warm illumination reaching the ground feels generous, yet it also marks the boundaries of what can be held for only a little while.

Against the cool, shadowed woodland, the watch rests close to the viewer, as though time has been brought out of abstraction and placed among ordinary necessities. Its Roman numerals and visible hands do not resolve the image; they sharpen its stillness. The work leaves room for a private recognition that endurance and disappearance can occupy the same moment, glowing together before the night closes in.
