DUKE ELLINGTON 3

DUKE ELLINGTON 3 — A vivid, music-centered composition captures two formally dressed figures in a charged exchange of gesture, rhythm, and color. The scene feels immediate and theatrical, translating the energy of performance into a richly layered visual experience.

A seated pianist anchors the lower center, both hands poised over the keys as the keyboard cuts diagonally toward the left. At right, a second figure stands prominently beside a large curved brown form, his face surrounded by radiating passages of orange, red, yellow, gold, cobalt, violet, and teal. White shirts and dark jackets provide recognizable structure amid an intentionally fragmented field. Expressive, impasto-like strokes move in short, broad directions, building strongly modeled faces and bright highlights around the figures and keyboard. Rather than presenting a clearly defined room or stage, the composition fills nearly edge to edge with overlapping marks, creating an abstract environment alive with visual motion.

Its energetic, dramatic character suits spaces that celebrate music, performance, and bold contemporary color. Hang it where the diagonal keyboard and contrasting dark suits can draw the eye, while the luminous whites and fiery hues enliven a neutral wall. The work brings a lively focal point to a listening room, studio, creative office, or entertainment area, offering viewers a richly textured interpretation of musicianship and stage presence.
