Within a charged field of color, Drifting Composition turns the act of looking into its central tension. Two blue-green eyes hold the viewer with unusual directness, yet the face around them refuses to settle into a complete likeness. Sweeping bands cross the features as if perception were arriving in fragments, making recognition feel immediate and uncertain at once.
The eyes remain sharply present amid yellow, orange, violet, and deep blue passages that pull in different directions. Their brightness gives the work an inward intensity, while the surrounding movement suggests a mind passing quickly between guardedness and disclosure. Nothing here offers a stable setting; the absence of a world beyond the face keeps attention close to expression, rhythm, and the pressure of being seen.
That tension is complicated by the work’s near-abstraction. The face can be read as a person, but also as a moment of consciousness reduced to its most searching sign. Dark brows and the narrow bridge of the nose provide just enough structure for the gaze to endure while everything around it seems to drift. The result is mysterious without becoming remote, inviting sustained attention rather than a single fixed reading.
