DREAMING OF FLIGHT - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Within a luminous, shifting field of color, Dreaming of Flight turns upward motion into a shared impulse rather than a destination. The five figures seem joined by a moment of release, their extended arms opening toward possibility while their trailing forms resist any fixed sense of weight. The work holds exhilaration and uncertainty together, suggesting that freedom may be felt most vividly just before it becomes familiar.

A diagonal movement carries the figures through the image, giving their passage the quality of a thought gathering speed. They do not appear to belong to a recognizable place; instead, they move through an inward landscape where brightness breaks through darker currents. This absence of setting leaves room for the scene to feel personal without becoming literal, as though memory, hope, and longing had briefly taken human shape.

The central reaching figure gives the composition its emotional lift, while the surrounding forms echo and complicate that gesture. Their varied colors and flowing silhouettes imply different versions of the same desire - to rise beyond the limits of the immediate moment. Yet the figures remain distinct, preserving a tension between solitary aspiration and collective movement. The result is buoyant without being weightless, and dreamlike without losing its human charge.
