DATE BY THE TROLLEY - oil painting on canvas by Leonid Afremov

DATE BY THE TROLLEY — A vivid urban scene unfolds beneath an autumn canopy, where a red trolley approaches along gleaming tracks and two figures gather beneath a pale umbrella. Warm light from a nearby streetlamp transforms the rainy street into a richly atmospheric evening view.

Fiery orange, amber yellow, deep red, burgundy, violet, and muted blue shape the scene. Expressive, heavily textured brushwork builds the trolley, tree trunks, overhead branches, streetlamp, and umbrella with short angular strokes and layered blocks of color. The trolley’s bright red lower body contrasts with its darker roof and pale window divisions, while the figures remain suggestive silhouettes against the illuminated background. Reflections stretch across the wet pavement, echoing the trolley, lamp, figures, and surrounding glow.

Diagonal tracks draw the eye from the foreground toward the trolley, creating depth and movement. Framing branches and shadowed edges intensify the warm central radiance, while the intimate grouping on the right adds a quiet human presence. This atmospheric cityscape brings together rainy-street mood, autumn color, and energetic painterly texture, making it a compelling focal point for spaces seeking warmth and visual drama.
