COLOR MEMORY - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Between recollection and returning, Color Memory turns the woodland into a place where memory refuses to remain still. Its central glow feels less like a destination than a moment recalled imperfectly, suspended between arrival and departure. The surrounding trees hold that radiance at a distance, giving the scene an inward, almost private charge.

The water does not simply repeat the world above it. Its broken reflections suggest how recollection alters what it carries, preserving brightness while loosening certainty. Warm light reaches downward, yet the mirrored scene remains elusive, as though the past can be approached only through its shifting impression.

Along the right side, cooler shadows temper the intensity of the illuminated opening. This movement from warmth into blue-green darkness gives the work its reflective tension: memory can comfort, but it can also deepen the sense of what has passed beyond reach. The forest becomes a threshold between vivid presence and quiet absence.

The slender trunks create a measured rhythm around that threshold, neither enclosing it completely nor allowing an easy escape. Their vertical forms lend the scene a sense of duration, while the luminous path beyond them keeps possibility alive. What remains is not a fixed story, but the fragile persistence of a place remembered through feeling.
