CITY OF LANTERN DREAMS - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Between the shadowed branches and the waiting avenue, City of Lantern Dreams turns an evening passage into a state of suspension. Its atmosphere belongs neither wholly to solitude nor to company; it holds the promise of crossing paths without insisting that anyone arrive. The distant architecture seems less like a destination than a quiet horizon, softened by the hour and by the warm attention of the lamps.

The wet roadway gathers the city’s scattered light and carries it forward in broken amber and blue, making the ground feel briefly inhabited by reflections. This shifting trail suggests memory more than direction - a route known through feeling, where each step may lead toward recognition or further uncertainty.

Small figures remain near the center, close enough to imply shared movement but too far away to become specific lives. Their presence gives the scene a human scale without resolving its mystery. Along the right side, the bench introduces the possibility of pause, as if the city allows time for watching before continuing.

Above this tentative passage, the trees form a dark arch that shelters the avenue without closing it off. The lanterns appear as steady points of welcome within the cool night, while the surrounding facades recede into an urban stillness that feels attentive rather than empty. The work lingers in that delicate interval when the ordinary world begins to seem inward and dreamlike.
